One of many ideas floating around in my head is to do an independent 'radio show' for the internet.
The concept is to write, record, and publish online an episodic science fiction entertainment show. The style conceptually would be that of the sarcastic humor and all around kooky universal ideas of Douglas Adams--a tribute.
Ideally we could put together two seasons of a show, six episodes each, just like the original BBC radio broadcast of
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy starring Peter Jones. Each episode would probably be approximately 22 minutes long as a typical half-hour American show (room for two 4-minute breaks).
Things needed==
- Quality PC microphone
- Decent but inexpensive audio editing software
- Project team to work on concepts and characters
- Volunteers for writing, editing, and voice acting
- Place to host audio files
The minimum bearable audio quality from testing on this machine is 16 kbps, one channel, 11 kHz sample rate. That rounds to roughly 2 KB file size per second of audio, which means we should have a minimum of 32 MB space for hosting the whole show.
Now as far as hosting the audio files, upgrading this website could do it. That would mean paying at least an extra $4 monthly just to host those files though (plus a $15 setup fee). Over the course of a year, that's $63, and another $48 each year after that.
If we can't find a cheaper way of hosting these files, then a possible solution would be to produce higher quality audio CDs and selling them for a few dollars a piece just to help cover costs. Though between the hosting, the microphone, and the software, I don't expect that costs would ever actually be covered--we'd just be trimming losses. Which is the way things usually go for independent work anyway. It's for entertainment, not for profit. (^*^)
If and as things progress with this project, it will get its own page, as with any project concepts brought up here. Well, that's all for now, folks!
Welcome to the shiny new section for all things creative. (^*^) Instead of seperating things into different kinds of games or other things, all things creative will be located here-- although projects will each get their own little pages. This place will hold bits and pieces of any little projects that might come up, from games of a wide variety, to arts and comics, thoughts for the world and anything else that we can come up with.
So stay tuned! It should be an interesting place.
